Welcome to the
GROUP FOUNDATION FOR ADVANCING MENTAL HEALTH
Together We Can
Change Lives
OUR MISSION:
The Group
Foundation for Advancing Mental Health is a philanthropic
organization dedicated to changing lives through therapeutic group
work by advancing the most effective and innovative approaches to
group therapy education, training, research and community outreach.
WHO ARE WE:
Recent research in
the social sciences and neurosciences are teaching us some profound
facts about the importance of groups in individual’s lives. People
with strong group support systems live longer, are less likely to
become mentally or physically ill and are more resilient. The Group
Foundation funds the research, training and community programs to
support group work to enhance people’s lives.
Group interventions of many kinds help heal trauma, improve
individual, family, and workplace relationships, treat addictions,
deal with grief and loss, and aid the military and their families in
dealing with the psychological impact of war. Group changes lives.
Knowing that
groups change lives and promote mental health, the Group Foundation
for Advancing Mental Health supports group interventions, education,
research, training and the dissemination of information for the
benefit of the public and professional communities. Over the years,
the resources of the Foundation were used to establish the
International Board for Certification of Group Psychotherapists, fund numerous research
and community outreach projects and provide Annual Meeting
scholarships and overall support for the meeting, through
underwriting grants and the endowment of events.
The Group
Foundation for Advancing Mental Health was established by the
American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA) as a not-for-profit,
separately incorporated 501(c)3 organization with purpose of
advancing mental health through group work.
