This paper explains the function
of scapegoating in group psychotherapy. The role of projective
identification in the evolution of the scapegoat is delineated,
and individual, subgroup, and whole-group interventions are
described. Several case studies are provided for illustration,
and the implications of this approach to group work is
discussed.
