Hope for Connection: Bulimic Symptoms and Interpersonal Struggle

Chair:

Group offers an ideal opportunity to explore the struggles individuals with bulima face. Using symptoms metaphorically, i.e. binging- "consuming of another," abstinence- "fear of being consumed", purging- "ridding self of unwanted thoughts and feelings", patients are able to connect their interpersonal difficulties with their relationship with food. This model helps patients develop a greater capacity for self-regulation and connection with others and consequently an increased capacity to regulate their relationship with food.
