Tracking Talk:  Communication Patterns in the Phases of  Group Development

Chair:

Claudia Byram, Ph.D., CGP, Consulting Affiliate, Friends Hospital,

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

What is the language of group flight?  Fight?  The communication pattern that identifies the Identified Patient?  That targets the Scapegoat?  SAVI (System for Analyzing Verbal Interaction) offers a map of these familiar interactions as reflected in the group’s communication process the ways we talk to one another.  We will “read” the map, use it to create the Flight and Fight phases, and then see what the effect is when we experiment with introducing different patterns of talk.
