Dead or Alive:  The Therapists Effect on Vitalizing the Group Process

Chairs:

Sara Emerson, LICSW, M.S.W., CGP, FAGPA, Faculty, Boston Institute for Psychotherapy, Inc., Boston, Massachusetts

Steven Krugman, Ph.D., CGP, Faculty, Center Psychoanalytic Studies, MGH, Boston, Massachusetts

Therapeutic action fosters the authentic engagement of members with themselves, others and the therapist.  Immediacy and vitality reflect the vividness of here and now experience, with its sense of risk, exposure, discovery and genuine affect.  This workshop will explore the use of the therapist's intersubjective experience of immediacy and disengagement to shape the group's process and development.
