The FDNY suffered
unimaginable losses in the disastrous assault of 9/11. No one in
this community was spared pain, trauma and devastation . Important
in recognizing and addressing the trauma and loss that was suffered
were both the collective needs as well as the special needs of
individuals and groups. This panel offers the history, rationale,
clinical impact of three innovative programs offered by FDNY in
response to those special needs: The Firehouse Clinician Project,
the Fire Marshall Group and the Couples Connection. All reflect the
use of clinical skill, creativity and involvement in post-disaster
group intervention.
