The Art of Mindfulness: Healing through Groups

The session will present the tenets of mindfulness meditation that teaches to accept reality as it is rather than as one would like it to be. Participants will be able to apply mindfulness in their personal and professional roles and facilitate mindfulness meditation groups in a variety of settings including college counseling centers and inpatient hospitals.

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:

1. Become familiar with the benefits of meditation in working with clients presenting with depression, anxiety, and chronic pain.
2. Identify the value of having a personal practice prior to facilitating mindfulness meditation groups.
3. Understand the steps needed to begin faciliating a mindfulness meditation group and utilize the research to support the benefits gained through the practice.
