Chair:

Connie Concannon, M.S.W., CGP, FAGPA, Associate Clinical Professor, UCSF Department of Psychiatry, San Francisco, California

Presenter:

Public education is highly politicized. There are many competing forces present in every school, such as No Child Left Behind, and Special Education mandates. Clinicians with a mental health background need to know their way around the education system. This workshop will endeavor to give clinicians the necessary tools to do so.

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:

1.Recognize the competing forces existing in public education as they pertain to the provision of clinical services.
2.Demonstrate proactive approaches to working with educators.
3.Apply specific skills to the implementation of group therapy in the public education setting.
