The Challenge of Creating Groups in an Urban Community Mental Health Setting

This presentation will explore the challenges of developing a psychotherapy group service in an urban community mental health agency. Participants will gain an understanding of the social, political and historical factors that contribute to the challenges of providing group services to members of historically marginalized communities.

 

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:

1. Identify the challenges of group work in agencies that serve members of marginalized communities.
2. Describe the social, political and historical factors that underlie these challenges.
3. Name strategies for increasing group participation in these settings.
