Cognitive Behavior Therapy Groups for Children: Fostering Resilience
and Social Skills

The Alvord
Baker Group Model applies empirically based strategies to promote
successful social interaction and resilience in children. This
workshop will describe a five-component model emphasizing a
Cognitive Behavioral Approach. Therapeutic techniques such as
cognitive restructuring, behavioral rehearsal, self-regulation and
skills training will be demonstrated.

The attendee will
be able to:
1. Define three
protective factors identified in the research literature that foster
resilience in children.
2. Describe three Cognitive Behavioral strategies used in group
therapy with children.
3. List strategies to encourage and teach prosocial behaviors.
4. Identify techniques for generalization and maintenance of change.
