Using
Group Therapy to Help Adolescents with Co-Occurring Disorders:
Combined Mental Health and Addictive Disorders

This
workshop will focus on information, skills, theory and
evidence-based practices for working with adolescents having
combined mental health and co-occurring disorders. Group therapy
will be emphasized as a treatment for this population. The theories
to be discussed include cognitive-behavioral, family systems, harm
reduction, motivational interviewing, motivational enhancement
therapy and solution-focused. Skill building, group techniques, and
case examples will be highlighted. The ages for
adolescents will be 12 to 18.

The attendee will
be able to:
1. Apply group
therapy skills in working with adolescents.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of co-occurring disorders with
adolescents.
3. Review evidence-based practice models for working with
adolescents.
4. Differentiate how group therapy can be helpful for adolescents
combined with other therapy modalities.
