Amid Chaos: The Role of the Mental Health Professional

In times of disaster the world is shaken. It is human to want to respond. But mental health professionals on the front lines of disaster have learned from experience that an uncoordinated or inappropriate response can do more harm than good. This workshop will examine how the public and private sectors of the mental health community must work together in times of crisis.

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:

1. Define helpful intervention in community outreach.
2. Distinguish between mental health community doing good and effective intervention in disaster.
3. Construct a model for systems working together in disaster preparedness.
